The UK Film Council has recently installed TalkByText; a new way to contact us, which will help people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Deaf and hard of hearing people cannot use standard voice telephones because of their hearing loss. TalkByText allows UK Film Council staff to receive real-time, character-by-character text calls from deaf and hard of hearing people over the internet using their PC.
A deaf person who is calling the UK Film Council on a textphone will have a display screen and a keyboard so they can type what they want to say to a member of our staff. The recipient of the call is able to read on their PC what the caller is typing and then type in a reply. TalkByText is similar to Instant Messenger, but uses telephones rather than the internet.
The RNID software is installed on one server and 25 UK Film Council PCs.
For more information on TalkByText, visit the RNID website.
